The lower reaches of the Ovens River offer some of the best still water canoeing in the state.

The Ovens River, Victoria starts near Harrietville at an elevation of 529m and ends at an elevation of 124m where it merges with the Murray River. The Ovens River drops around 405m over its 191km length. The Ovens River flows into Lake Mulwala (124m) where it joins the Murray River.


This route has to be one of the best along the Ovens River with its rich flora and fauna, amazing river vistas and a real feeling that you are far away from the crowds.  The river twists and turns and is in a very natural state which helps to provide a rich environment and one that makes you feel that you are amongst nature. River Tribe describes this stretch of river as un-touched, slightly adventurous but safe as long as you follow the rules of the river. Above all it is an intimate section of river with trees over-hanging and when you stop and take a look the river is full of life, it is alive with a menagerie of life not often seen, it feels healthy, natural, relaxing yet invigorating.​


Overnight kayak adventures can be facilitated with camping equipment or guests can supply their own gear. If you need equipment and supplies River Tribe can supply: dry bags, dry box, tents, sleeping mats and bags, kitchen, stove and other camping equipment.
